The Nevada Opportunity Scholarship Program mirrors successful tax credit programs that have been available in many others states for a number of years. This program provides families earning up to 300 percent of poverty level a scholarship up to $7,755 for K-12 private school tuition and fees.

For example, a family of four making up to $69,100 would qualify for this scholarship.

The program is funded by donations from Nevada companies that in turn earn a dollar-for-dollar tax credit against their state Modified Business Tax. The maximum total amount that could have been donated in 2015 was $5 million. In 2016, it was $5.5 million and in 2017 grew to $6 million. In 2018, it will grow to $6.5 million.

Families apply to approved scholarship programs. You can learn more about the program on the Nevada Department of Education website.
